Privacy Policy

Overview

RookieDesk publishes checklists, manufacturer odds, box formats, release dates and grading fees for baseball, football and basketball cards. You can read everything without an account. Short version: no accounts, no comments, no newsletter sign-up, no ads, and we never sell or share what little data the site handles.

What we collect

Analytics. We use Google Analytics 4, a Google service, to count page views, and only after you click Accept on the cookie banner. Until then no analytics script is downloaded and no analytics cookie is set. Google Consent Mode starts at “denied”; Accept only allows analytics storage. Advertising storage, ad personalisation and Google signals stay off for everyone. We see totals such as page views, the site that sent you and your approximate country. You can withdraw your consent at any time: clear this site's cookies and site data in your browser settings. That deletes the Google Analytics cookies and your stored choice, the banner asks again, and analytics stays off unless you click Accept.

“Was this helpful?” votes. Guide articles can show a helpful / not helpful button. We store the vote count per article. To stop repeat votes, we keep a one-way hash of your IP address for about an hour, then it expires. We cannot turn the hash back into your IP address.

Things saved in your browser. Your theme choice (light or dark), the articles you save, the articles you have opened and your cookie banner choice are stored in your browser's localStorage. They never leave your device and we never see them. Clearing your browser data removes them.

Server logs. Like every website, our web server and our network provider (Cloudflare) see your IP address, browser type and the page you asked for when you load a page. We use these logs only to keep the site running and secure.

Email. If you email us at contact@rookiedesk.com or admin@rookiedesk.com, we keep your message and address only to reply and, for corrections, to note what we fixed. We never add you to a mailing list or share your address.

Cookies

The only cookies we set are the Google Analytics cookies (_ga and _ga_ followed by an ID), and only after you click Accept. If you click Decline, or ignore the banner, none are set. We never use advertising or cross-site tracking cookies. To change your choice later, clear this site's data in your browser and the banner will ask again.

Ads and affiliate links

RookieDesk shows no ads and has no affiliate links or sponsors. Links to eBay, card retailers, Topps, Panini, Upper Deck or grading companies are plain links to our sources; we earn nothing from them. If that ever changes, this page and the independence note on the about page will be updated first.

Embeds and links to other sites

If an article embeds a YouTube video or a Reddit post, that embed loads from YouTube or Reddit, which can set their own cookies when you play or interact with it (see Google's privacy policy and Reddit's privacy policy). Links to manufacturers, graders, marketplaces and other sites follow those sites' own policies.

Children

RookieDesk is written for adult collectors and is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you think a child sent us personal information by email, write to admin@rookiedesk.com and we will delete it.

Selling and sharing

We do not sell or share personal information, and we do not sell anything on this site, so we hold no payment details.

Your rights

You can ask what we hold about you (usually nothing), ask us to delete it, or object to how we use it. Email admin@rookiedesk.com.

Changes to this policy

If we change how we handle data, we will update this page and the date at the top before the change goes live.
