2026 Panini Donruss Football is Panini's Donruss football set after the NFL license moved to Fanatics and Topps, built around retired greats and college players, with a hobby box of 12 ten-card packs. This preview lists what Panini's own pages and June blog post confirm, what secondary sources add about inserts and the October 28 date, and what is still missing.

TL;DR: Panini's hobby page lists 10 cards per pack, 12 packs per box and 12 boxes per case, with "1 Autograph 1 Memorabilia 12 Parallels 6 Optic Base/Parallels 36 Inserts per box, on average!" The base set has 200 cards. Pro cards are unlicensed after the NFL license went to Fanatics and Topps. October 28 comes from secondary sources only, and we found no odds sheet or checklist on October 11, 2026.

2026 Panini Donruss Football: the short version (quick answer)

2026 Panini Donruss Football is the 2026 edition of Panini's Donruss football line, sold in hobby boxes of 12 packs. Panini's product page says: "The collecting flagship that is Donruss Football returns for 2026 with a 200-card base set." Secondary calendars date it to October 28, 2026.

Overview: what changed for 2026 Panini Donruss Football

The biggest change is the license. NFL.com reported in April 2026 that Fanatics Collectibles, the NFL and the NFLPA "announced Topps’ exciting return as the NFL and NFLPA’s official exclusive trading card licensee." Checklist Insider, a secondary source, says 2026 Donruss "keeps the Panini brand moving forward following the loss of the NFL license to Fanatics/Topps," and that "all pro cards are unlicensed, and collegiate cards take on a much greater role." Its rundown adds that the checklist "focuses more on retired greats and the next crop of college stars."

Panini's own preview of its fall football line, a June 23, 2026 blog post by Connor Zimmerlee, says "can’t-miss collections such as Absolute, Donruss, Prizm and several others will be dropping over the months to come," and that "several of Panini’s top NIL athletes are set to be featured." The post names college players such as Julian Sayin, Dante Moore and CJ Carr, but does not say which product each one appears in.

The sample cards in that post carry the Donruss, Optic and Elite logos and print a city or a school instead of a team name: "NEW ORLEANS" on Drew Brees, "DETROIT" on Calvin Johnson, "MICHIGAN" on Bryce Underwood. Our 2026 Panini Obsidian Football preview found the same city and school labels on Panini's sample cards for its other October football release.

Analysis: what one 2026 Panini Donruss Football hobby box holds

Panini's hobby page, read in a browser on October 10, 2026, lists "10 CARDS PER PACK," "12 PACKS PER BOX" and "12 BOXES PER CASE," and then: "1 Autograph 1 Memorabilia 12 Parallels 6 Optic Base/Parallels 36 Inserts per box, on average!"

Bar chart of one 2026 Donruss Football hobby box by Panini's averages: 64 base or other cards, 36 inserts, 12 parallels, 6 Optic cards, 1 autograph, 1 memorabilia card Chart: RookieDesk arithmetic from Panini's 2026 Donruss Football hobby page (October 10, 2026)

"On average" matters. The listed lines add up to 56 of the 120 cards, which leaves 64 for base cards and anything Panini does not itemise. Every line is an average across the print run, a weaker promise than a hit in every box; our product guide compares that wording with Topps' "in every box." Across a 12-box case, the averages come to 12 autographs and 12 memorabilia cards, on our arithmetic, not a guarantee for any one case.

Relic or memorabilia? Checklist Insider's box break lists "1 Relic" where Panini's page says "1 Memorabilia." We use Panini's word.

Hobby Blaster. Panini's football listing also shows a "2026 Panini Donruss Football Trading Card Box (Hobby Blaster)." We could not read its configuration, so it is not in the table.

Analysis: 2026 Panini Donruss Football inserts and autographs

Base and Optic. Checklist Insider says "the base set opens with 200 cards and includes multiple parallels," and "There's also a Base Optic version with its own run of parallels." That matches the six Optic cards per box on Panini's page.

Inserts. "Campus Kings is back and Elite is another Donruss brand that gets the call," Checklist Insider writes. Downtown "returns to the gridiron with illustrated imagery and team-specific landmarks," and Downtown Duos "flips to a horizontal layout and showcases two players." Panini's sample of the duo version pairs John Elway and Peyton Manning under "DENVER."

Autographs. "Many of these are Donruss staples, such as Signature Marks and Signature Series," and "Dominators Autographs is another returning option." Panini's samples include a signed Signature Marks card of Darren Sproles ("SAN DIEGO"), a signed Elite Signature Series card of cornerback Zion Branch, and a signed Dominators card of Ray Lewis ("BALTIMORE").

Rated Rookies. None of the pages we read on October 10 and 11 mentions Rated Rookies for 2026 Donruss Football. DK Network's secondary calendar, updated October 16, now says the set "features a large base set, Rated Rookies, inserts, autographs and memorabilia cards"; Checklist Insider still did not mention them on October 17, and we found no Panini checklist. Without NFL-licensed rookies, we are not assuming the subset returns in its usual form; we will add it if Panini's checklist shows it. Our rookie cards guide covers what counts as a rookie card in 2026.

Checklist. Checklist Insider: "The checklist will be added once it is issued by the manufacturer." We list no card numbers or full player list until Panini publishes one.

Release date and odds for 2026 Panini Donruss Football

Release date: October 28, secondary. Checklist Insider gives "Estimated Release Date: October 28, 2026," the retailer Hit Kings lists "Expected Release Date: 10/28/2026," and DK Network's October calendar places it on October 28 with the note "Release dates are subject to change." Panini's hobby page said "Coming Soon" with no date on October 10. Our release calendar carries only dates from a manufacturer's own page, so Donruss is not on it yet.

Odds: none published. Panini lists per-box averages, not 1:N ratios, and we found no Panini odds sheet on October 10 or 11, 2026. RookieDesk takes odds only from the manufacturer's sheet, so there is nothing to enter in the chance-to-pull calculator yet.

Price. We could not read a price on Panini's pages and do not use resale listings as a price.

Community: what collectors are asking about 2026 Donruss

The license change is the thread that keeps coming up. In an August 31, 2026 r/footballcards thread asking why the 2026 Donruss factory set has 200 cards, u/Realistic-Ruin8639 replied: "Panini lost the license to NFL therefore no current players will be in the set. It will be college players and retired players." u/OkTwo7319 qualified that the next day: "Panini can continue to release cards of current players, they will however be unlicensed cards and require NIL deals from the player. No NFL team names, no logos, no pro uniforms" (thread).

Earlier in August, u/Insurance-Fragrant posted a "First preview look at Dante Moore’s Horizontal Downtown from 2026 Donruss" (post), which drew replies about the design and the missing logos.

Our take

Based on Panini's pages and the sources cited above: 2026 Panini Donruss Football keeps the familiar box (12 packs of 10, one autograph and one memorabilia card on average, 36 inserts) and the familiar insert names, but the card subjects change. With no NFL license, the set leans on retired players and college athletes, and that is the main thing to check against the checklist when Panini posts it. Until then the fixed facts are Panini's averages; the date, the full player list, Rated Rookies and any odds are still open.

Frequently Asked Questions

The six questions above cover the release date, the hobby box, licensing, inserts, Rated Rookies and odds.

When does 2026 Panini Donruss Football come out?
Secondary sources list October 28, 2026: Checklist Insider gives it as an estimated release date, the retailer Hit Kings as an expected date, and DK Network's October calendar carries it too. Panini's own hobby page said Coming Soon with no date when it was read on October 10, 2026.

What comes in a 2026 Panini Donruss Football hobby box?
Panini's hobby page lists 10 cards per pack, 12 packs per box and 12 boxes per case, with one autograph, one memorabilia card, 12 parallels, six Optic base or parallel cards and 36 inserts per box, on average. That is 120 cards per box.

Is 2026 Donruss Football licensed by the NFL?
No. Fanatics Collectibles announced in April 2026 that its Topps brand is the NFL and NFLPA's exclusive trading card licensee. Checklist Insider says all pro cards in 2026 Donruss are unlicensed and collegiate cards take a much greater role. Panini's sample cards print cities and schools, not team names.

What inserts are in 2026 Donruss Football?
Checklist Insider lists Campus Kings, Elite, Downtown and the horizontal Downtown Duos. Panini's June 2026 football preview shows Donruss-branded sample cards of Downtown, a two-player Downtown featuring John Elway and Peyton Manning, Elite and Dominators. A full checklist had not been published when we checked.

Does 2026 Donruss Football have Rated Rookies?
We could not confirm it from Panini. None of the pages we read on October 10 and 11, 2026, from Panini's hobby page and blog to Checklist Insider, DK Network and Hit Kings, mentions Rated Rookies for 2026 Donruss Football. DK Network's secondary calendar, updated October 16, 2026, now lists Rated Rookies in a one-line description of the set; Checklist Insider still did not mention them on October 17, and we found no Panini checklist. We will add them when Panini publishes the checklist.

Are there odds for 2026 Panini Donruss Football?
Not that we could find. Panini's hobby page gives contents per box on average, not 1:N odds, and we found no Panini odds sheet on October 10 or 11, 2026. RookieDesk publishes odds only from the manufacturer's sheet with its box format, so this guide lists the box averages instead.

How we checked this

The hobby box lines and base set size come from Panini's 2026 Donruss Football hobby page, read in a browser on October 10, 2026; later that day the page returned a Cloudflare error to our browser. Panini's June 23, 2026 football preview was read in full on October 11, and its sample card images were opened before we described them. The license line comes from NFL.com. Checklist Insider, Hit Kings and DK Network are secondary sources, labelled where used. The Reddit comments were read on the threads' feeds on October 11. Per-box and per-case totals are RookieDesk's arithmetic. We have not opened this product. Full source table: data/sources/2026-panini-donruss-football-checklist.sources.md.
